The music play school is aimed at children aged 0–6 and offers joyful and varied musical moments. The activities are child-centred and support creativity, interaction skills and the child’s overall development.
During the sessions children are introduced to the world of music in many different ways: through rhymes, songs and games. The programme also includes playing instruments, listening and movement as well as exercises in rhythm and improvisation. In addition, children can express themselves visually by drawing and colouring. The music play school teaching is based on the national curriculum, and its aim is to spark and maintain a positive attitude and interest in music in children.
Through the activities the child learns to recognise and understand basic aspects of music, such as opposites (high–low, slow–fast, loud–quiet) and core musical elements like melody, harmony and rhythm. At the same time the child’s concentration, vocal use and motor skills develop.
The music play school offers a safe and encouraging environment where every child can participate in their own way and experience the joy of music.
In the family group the child participates in music activities together with their own adult. The session lasts 30 minutes and the groups meet once a week.
Groups are generally formed from children born in the same year. During the sessions we sing, play instruments, move and dance together to music. Adults participate actively in the activities, and the child remains the responsibility of their adult for the entire session.
Comfortable clothing suitable for movement is recommended for both the child and the adult.
The sibling music group can be attended by several 0–3-year-old siblings together with an adult. The planning of the sessions takes into account the development and needs of children of different ages.
The sessions last 45 minutes and are held once a week. During the lessons we sing, play instruments, recite rhymes, move and listen to music in a varied way.
Adults take an active part in the activities and the children are the responsibility of their adult for the entire session.
Comfortable clothing suitable for movement is recommended for both children and adults.
In the play group the child participates in music activities independently without an adult. Sessions last 45 minutes and meet once a week. Groups are generally formed from children born in the same year.
The music sessions encourage the child to use their voice and to sing naturally. Basic musical concepts are learned through play, and children are introduced to various percussion instruments.
Children should wear comfortable clothes suitable for movement.
In the instrument groups six-year-old children can begin learning to play the kantele, piano, ukulele or violin. The child may choose the instrument themselves. Sessions use personal instruments (except for piano groups).
Lessons combine instrumental playing, singing and broad musical experiences. The child will also play percussion instruments, listen to music and perceive music through movement.
Sessions last 45 minutes and are held once a week.
The primary registration period for new pupils is April–May. New pupils may also be admitted during the school year if there is space.
Places are filled in order of registration.
