Every child has the right to receive support for growth, learning and wellbeing as soon as the need for support is noticed. Support is planned together with the guardians according to the child’s needs, and the child primarily receives support in their own group.
Support in Early Childhood Education and Care
In Early Childhood Education and Care, support may relate to, for example:
- development and learning
- interaction and communication
- everyday skills and participation
Support may include, for example, adapting pedagogical practices, activities in groups of different sizes, or instruction provided by an early childhood special education teacher.
Support in pre-primary education
In pre-primary education, a child may receive support for learning and participation in pre-primary education. Support is provided primarily through educational arrangements that promote the conditions for learning, as well as through group-based support measures. When necessary, the child also has the right to individual support measures.
Support for a multilingual child
Multilingualism is an asset for the child. In Early Childhood Education and Care and pre-primary education, learning Finnish or Swedish is supported and the child’s own language and culture are valued.
A child learns language through play, conversations and everyday situations.
