Ensemble playing

A group of musicians playing accordions and string instruments in a blue performance room.

Ensemble playing is a central part of instrumental tuition at Kuula Institute. It complements individual instrument lessons and brings community, joy and motivation to music studies right from the start.

Playing together in a group develops the student’s instrumental skills, listening ability, and cooperation and interaction skills. The repertoire is chosen taking into account the students’ skill level and ensemble makeup so that everyone can experience success and progress at their own level.

Ensemble playing is carried out in a variety of groups and projects, either as regular instruction or on a periodic basis.

At Kuula Institute, forms of ensemble playing include, for example:

  • starter orchestras
  • wind orchestras
  • string orchestras
  • chamber music groups
  • bands
  • vocal groups
  • various collaborative projects

The programme is specified annually during the planning of the academic year.
