Höstvesi and Runsor

Höstvesi and Runsor are located in the southern part of Vaasa. Common to the areas is that they have good transport connections, extensive outdoor recreation areas and an important role as Vaasa’s workplace and business area. Runsor is particularly known for its energy cluster, and Höstvesi attracts nature lovers to the Pilvilampi area year-round.

Höstvesi

Höstvesi (Höstves) is particularly known for the Pilvilampi outdoor recreation area, which offers a wide range of exercise and recreation opportunities in all seasons. The network of long ski tracks with fantastic wind shelters and huts is a delight for anyone who enjoys being in nature. In summer, it is pleasant to hike on foot to the scenic marsh. For those who like golf, there is a golf course very close by.

In the village of Höstvesi there is also a historic hill, Värnebacken. According to historical records, two women were executed there in 1658, Marketta Parkoinen and Marketta Punasuomalainen, who were accused of witchcraft.

Runsor

Runsor is one of Vaasa’s most important workplace and business areas. The area includes the industrial zone Air Port Park, which is part of Finland’s energy cluster.

Several high-technology companies operate in the area, such as

  • Danfoss
  • VEO
  • The Switch
  • Fujitsu
  • VAMP
  • Wapice
  • Vestas
  • Technology centre Merinova

In the southern part of Runsor, behind the village, lies Vaasa Airport, which is one of Finland’s busiest.

The central areas of Runsor also include Kuninkaankartano (Kungsgården) and Risö. As early as the 16th century Gustav Vasa had Kuninkaankartano built. At one time the building served, among other things, as the army’s provisions store and a muster farm. Today a Swedish vocational institute operates there.
