Preparatory education for primary and lower secondary education in pre-primary education
A child may participate in preparatory education for primary and lower secondary education provided in pre-primary education if their Finnish language skills are not yet sufficient to participate in the activities and teaching of pre-primary education.
Preparatory education is intended for children with an immigrant background who were not born in Finland. The decision to participate is made by the guardian based on a staff recommendation.
Teaching is organised in the child’s own pre-primary education group. In addition, the child may receive instruction in a small group or individually according to their own needs.
The aim of the preparatory education is for the child to reach the A2 level in Finnish according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
An individual study plan is drawn up for each child participating in the preparatory education.
