The Kvarken Archipelago World Heritage Area was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 16 July 2006. With this decision, the High Coast / Kvarken Archipelago World Heritage site is today a transboundary World Heritage site. The High Coast celebrated its 25th anniversary as a World Heritage site last year, while we in the Kvarken archipelago will celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2026.
Being included in the UNESCO World Heritage List is a recognition that highlights the area’s unique nature and its great importance for future generations. Together with Sweden’s High Coast, the Kvarken Archipelago forms a joint World Heritage site where land uplift is visible more clearly than in almost anywhere else in the world.
The Kvarken World Heritage Association, together with the World Heritage municipalities and local organisations, will organise programmes throughout the jubilee year. There will be competitions, activities, guided tours, boat trips, exhibitions and much more. The official jubilee event will be held in early autumn 2026.
Land Uplifter of the Year

The cooperative “Solrutten” has been chosen as the Land Uplifter of the Year 2026 for its long-term work to improve the accessibility of the Kvarken Archipelago. Broad and sustained cooperation with various actors has strengthened both maritime safety and the archipelago’s services. “Solrutten” has improved opportunities to experience the World Heritage from the sea, and at the same time engaged many volunteers in the work.
The award is presented by the cooperation group of the High Coast and the Kvarken Archipelago.
