Culture House Fanny

Culture House Fanny is a venue managed by the City of Vaasa’s Culture and Library Services, which can be rented, for example, for events, parties or long-term hobby activities. The building underwent an extensive renovation that was completed in summer 2026.

Culture House Fanny aims to support independent cultural practice as well as general cultural activities in the city. The house provides a platform for interaction between immigrants and the native population and serves as a low-threshold meeting place.

Various hobby groups operate in the house and different cultural and other events are also organised. The house’s different spaces can be rented, for example, for meetings, parties or events.

Available times for event spaces can be viewed via the Timmi calendar . Before filling in the electronic booking form, make sure the time slot is available. After submitting the form we will confirm the booking and the time before making the actual agreement.

For inquiries related to long-term work and hobby space rentals, you can contact Head of Culture Services Jenni Niemi. Please note that available work and hobby spaces are primarily rented for use by cultural operators.

Terms of use

1.   The tenant is responsible for the safety of the event and must familiarise themselves with the building’s rescue plan.

2.   The tenant signs the rental agreement. The signatory is the person responsible for organising the event, maintaining order and complying with the rules.

3.   The key tag is collected and returned according to the agreement from the city hall caretaker at Senaatinkatu 1. The signatory of the rental agreement is responsible for collecting and returning the key tag. The tenant will cover any costs resulting from loss of the key tag.

4.   The event must end at 00:00. Alarms are activated in the building after this time. The tenant will be charged by the security company according to its price list for any false alarm call-outs.

5.   The premises must be left after the event in the same condition they were received, with tables and chairs returned to their places. Cleaning supplies can be found at Fanny. If the tenant neglects the obligation to restore and clean the premises, the landlord, i.e. the City of Vaasa’s Culture and Library Services, will charge the tenant according to the price list.

Cleaning:

  • The outdoor areas are cleaned in front of the entrances (pick up loose litter, cigarette butts, etc.)
  • Floors are cleaned according to a separate set of instructions.
  • Rubbish is taken to the outdoor refuse containers
  • Tables and chairs are wiped with a damp cloth when necessary.
  • Kitchen counters and equipment are wiped.
  • Dishes are washed.

For parties and events held Fri–Sat, external cleaning is automatically included (min. 2 h, according to the price list). This does not remove the tenant’s obligation to restore the premises. The tenant must remove loose litter, tidy the outdoor area if necessary, and wash the dishes.

6.   The tenant shall compensate for broken, soiled or missing items. The tenant is obliged to report damages or breakages of equipment caused by them. This report must be made no later than the first working day after the event to fanny@vaasa.fi. If the landlord detects damages related to the booking, these will be added to the invoice.

7.   The tenant is responsible for keeping the building’s doors locked during the event and for closing them after the event. The Culture and Library Services will inform the tenant if there are other operators in the building at the same time and how to act in that case.

8.   The tenant is responsible for obtaining the appropriate permits and ensuring the safety of the event (police, rescue department).

9.   A booking is binding, but it can be cancelled free of charge no later than 7 working days before the reserved time. If the booking is cancelled later, the customer will be charged 50% of the agreed rental price.

10. Smoking is strictly prohibited indoors.

11. Open fires or outdoor torches must not be lit.

12. Culture House Fanny is not an official licensed area for serving alcohol, but in exceptional cases and subject to a separate consideration and an official decision, the landlord may grant permission for this.

13. For safety reasons, the use of a gas grill or similar devices in the kitchen is prohibited.

14. In emergencies outside office hours contact: tel. 0400 230 001 (security service NYQS Oy)

15. As the manager and landlord of the building, the Culture and Library Services have the right, as necessary and depending on the event, to refuse to rent out the premises.

About organising public events:

The tenant is responsible for ensuring that all permits, notifications and other necessary arrangements related to organising the event are taken care of well in advance of the event start. A successful public event requires careful advance planning, named persons responsible as well as securing necessary partners and permits. The event must comply with instructions and regulations issued by authorities. The tenant is responsible for the safety of event participants and for familiarising themselves with the building’s rescue plan.

Notification of a public event:

A written notification must be made to the police for organising a public event at the venue. A public event means public entertainment events, competitions, performances and other comparable events. Private events at Fanny do not require notification, with a few exceptions. Exceptions also include public events that, due to the small number of participants or the nature of the event, do not require measures to maintain order and safety. The organiser must make the notification at least five days before the start of the event.

A notification must be made to the police, for example, in the following cases:

  • the organiser considers the event requires security personnel
  • a noise notification must be made about the event
  • the event requires traffic arrangements
  • areas are reserved for public parking
  • programme items require safety measures, such as delimiting a safe audience area, rescue personnel or equipment.
  • alcohol will be served at the event
