Employment Services for Immigrants

Ostrobothnia Employment Services helps you if you are unemployed or need support with job seeking in Finland. You will receive guidance, training and other services from us that help you find employment and integrate into Finland.

Can you register as a job seeker?

You can register as a job seeker if

  • you are unemployed or need support with job seeking and
  • you have the right to work in Finland.

You may have the right to work in Finland, for example, if you have

  • a valid residence permit
    or
  • citizenship of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland.

When you register as a job seeker, you start your job search and a client relationship with Employment Services. Together we will assess which services suit you best.

We provide help for your job search

When you are registered as a job seeker with Employment Services, you can

  • apply for unemployment benefits from Kela or an unemployment fund, if you are entitled to them
  • receive support with job seeking
  • participate in services that help you gain employment and integrate into Finland.

Integration means learning the language, getting to know Finnish society and finding your place in Finland.

We help you find suitable services. We can direct you, for example, to:

  • language proficiency assessment
  • integration training in Finnish or Swedish
  • orientation to Finnish society, where you will receive information about Finnish society
  • basic or vocational education

Initial interview and plan

After you have registered as a job seeker, we will contact you as soon as possible and arrange the first meeting.

At the meeting

  • we review possible results of language tests
  • we discuss your life situation and goals
  • we clarify your education and employment history and your skills
  • we take into account other factors affecting your employment.

After that, together we make an integration plan, if necessary.

The plan may, for example, include

  • language studies
  • education or other services
  • steps towards working life

How to get started

  • If you have a Finnish personal identity code and can authenticate online, register as a job seeker in the E-services at Job Market. Please note that the online service is available only in Finnish and Swedish.
  • If you cannot use e-identification, you can fill in the electronic Register as a job seeker form (formbox.fi).
  • If you cannot use the online service, contact Employment Services.

During your client relationship

If you receive an integration plan, its duration is usually up to two years. During this time, you will meet an expert regularly and together monitor your progress towards employment.

After the integration period ends, your client relationship with Employment Services may continue if you still need support with job seeking.

We can arrange an interpreter for the meeting if necessary. Tell us about the need for an interpreter when you contact Employment Services.
