The driver of a vehicle for which a parking permit has been purchased has the right to deviate from a traffic sign indicating a parking prohibition, restriction or charge, if an additional plate so specifies.
Purchasing a permit does not guarantee a parking space, but only entitles you to deviate from those restrictions at properly marked locations.
In Vaasa, parking permits are granted for the following purposes:
Resident parking is targeted only to those properties that are in the immediate vicinity of areas A, B and C. Persons who do not have residential rights/address in the said properties are not entitled to purchase a resident parking permit. The matter is checked during the permit application, at which time the parking right is also paid. The number of parking rights per dwelling unit is 2 permits.
Resident parking is indicated by traffic signs and is monitored by the city’s parking enforcement.

- Hovioikeudenpuistikko (resident parking area A) / monthly fee €17.00
- Konepajakatu and Himalajankatu (resident parking area B) / monthly fee €12.00
- Frilundintie (resident parking area C) / monthly fee €12.00
- The Olympiakortteli parking area (resident parking area D) / monthly fee €17.00

Passenger cars registered as gas-powered may be issued a separate parking permit. The permit entitles the holder to two hours’ free (P-disc) parking at parking spaces designated separately by the City of Vaasa, and under conditions set by the City of Vaasa.
When applying for the parking permit, part 1 of the vehicle registration certificate for the passenger car using gas as fuel (CBG/CNG-bifuel) must be presented.
The registration of the parking permit is handled by Ab Stormossen Oy.
The holder of the parking permit must attach the parking-authorising “BIG” sticker to a visible place on the car’s front windscreen on the right-hand side when viewed from inside the car.

The home care parking permit may be used on the city’s street areas when an employee visits the client’s home for care or service tasks.
A parking permit may be granted to an operator that provides the service referred to in section 190 a of the Road Traffic Act. The permit may be granted to:
- a home care worker
- a company
- an association
- a public body
The permit may only be used when the work is carried out at the client’s home and forms part of tasks prescribed by law. The parking permit is applied for from the parking enforcement.

War veterans from Vaasa and Mustasaari are given the opportunity to park on the City of Vaasa’s parking areas without a parking fee. A separate P-permit for the vehicle is required. The permit can be collected from the Parking Enforcement customer service.
