Waste Management Board

Efficient waste management helps maintain both a pleasant living environment and a clean natural environment for future generations. In the Vaasa region, waste management services are provided by Ab Stormossen Oy, a company jointly owned by the municipalities in the area. Its member municipalities are Vaasa, Isokyrö, Korsnäs, Maalahti, Mustasaari, and Vöyri.

The Waste Management Board of the Vaasa region is responsible for the municipalities’ statutory waste management authority duties, as well as other development and monitoring tasks related to waste management. The board decides on waste management regulations and fees and grants exemptions from these regulations. For example, residents wishing to join a shared waste container or notify the authorities about composting must submit a written notification using the board’s official form.

Stormossen also provides guidance on waste sorting, collection and reception points, and other practical aspects related to organizing waste management..
